On the 27th of February, JCC hosted “The Smart Dwelling Beyond Smart House Exhibition which was co organized by Keio-NUS CUTE Center. This exhibition was held from the 27th February to 1st March.
This special weekend program attracted a huge crowd including members of the public and school students. Singapore Furniture Industries Council President Mr Ernie Koh graced this exhibition with his family.
The objective of this Media Furniture Project is to enable and automate our daily tasks like drawing the curtains, turning on and off the lights, choosing what music to play, and adjusting the temperature of the room. This exhibition had totally changed the traditional belief that architecture and furniture are always static and will never move among the guests.
This media embedded furniture adapted to the people’s behavior by detecting their movements. For example the lightings and music will switch on and change according to our body movements. This detection mechanism was invoked through a coded program which was running throughout the exhibition.
When asked the organizers, their future plans for this Media Furniture Project is to lower the barrier for furniture companies to make media embedded pieces with existing technologies and to develop this further for hospitals to assist in movements of patients or disabled people to do simple tasks.
